Saturday's NASL Match Of The Week On ESPN3
Fall Week 8 Begins With Friday Night Fútbol Featuring
The League-Leading Scorpions Visiting The Strikers
NEW YORK (August 27, 2014) - The race to The Championship, the league's four-team postseason tournament, continues in North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall Season play with five games scheduled over three nights this weekend. Highlighting the matchups in Week 8 of the league's #Fight4Fall campaign is the "NASL Match of the Week" on ESPN3, which will feature the Carolina RailHawks hosting the Atlanta Silverbacks at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
ESPN's live, multi-screen sports network is accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and streamed on televisions through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold members, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
Soccer fans around the world will also be able to 'Watch Every Match Live' throughout the 2014 NASL Fall Season, including Week 8 encounters in Carolina, Edmonton, Fort Lauderdale, Indy and Ottawa, at www.NASLLive.com. Looking to remain among the contenders for the final berths into The Championship, the RailHawks currently sit in fourth place in the 2014 NASL Combined Standings (Spring/Fall). The club has won three of its last five games.
Meanwhile, the Silverbacks, who trail the RailHawks by five points in the Combined Standings, will be looking to grab their first ever win at WakeMed Soccer Park. In addition to being available on NASLLive.com, the Carolina-Atlanta matchup will be on local radio 99.9 HD-3 The Ticket.
Weekend action kicks off a day early this week, with a Friday Night Fútbol matchup between the NASL's Fall Season leaders, the San Antonio Scorpions, and the Fort Lauderdale Strikers at Lockhart Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the match live on NASLLive.com, and listen to it locally via Sofloradio.com.
San Antonio, who is just a single point away from first place in the Combined Standings, leads the all-time head-to-head series against fifth-place Fort Lauderdale. The Scorpions are also unbeaten in their last three encounters against the Strikers.
On Saturday, the defending NASL champions, the New York Cosmos, travel to the Midwest region to take on Indy Eleven at IUPUI's Michael A. Carroll Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. On top of being available on NASLLive.com, the game will air locally on MyINDY TV-23.
The Cosmos, who occupy third place in the Combined Standings, last played against Indy Eleven this past spring - a matchup that ended in a 1-1 draw at Hofstra University's James M. Shuart Stadium on May 24.
Rounding out Saturday's Week 8 encounters, Ottawa Fury FC hosts the Tampa Bay Rowdies at TD Place. The game, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET, will be available onNASLLive.com and it will also air locally on Rogers TV and TSN 1200 Radio.
After earning its first victory of the Fall Season last week, Fury FC is looking to make it two in a row. Meanwhile, the Rowdies, who are currently a point away from the last qualifying berth into The Championship, will be playing their second ever game in Ottawa. The previous clash ended in a 1-1 draw this past spring at Carleton University's Keith Harris Stadium.
Week 8 concludes on Sunday with another affair north of the border when NASL Spring Champion Minnesota United FC visits FC Edmonton at Clarke Stadium at 2 pm MT (4 pm ET). Fans can watch the game live on NASLLive.com and locally on City TV.
Edmonton, who is four points away from the final spot in The Championship, holds the advantage in head-to-head encounters against Minnesota in Canada. Meanwhile, Minnesota, who has already secured its berth into the NASL's four-team postseason tournament as the winners of the Spring Season Championship, is unbeaten in its last four meetings against the Canadian side.
